IntentIon Program
the starry sky has been an object of wonder and awe in
mankind’s consciousness for thousands of years. When
we lean our heads back, the view we get is almost the
exact same as that of our distant forefathers, and the stars
builds bridges between our selves, our forefathers and
those who come after us.
the trees on the site have a large potential of forming
the spacial frames around the stargazing experience. I
have always been extra fascinated by looking at the starry
sky from underneath large trees, where the logs of the
trees forms a ladder and a connection between the sky
and earth, and the branches filters the stars in a way that
makes it easier to get a reference to the dimensions of the
sky.
starWood
from my intention program I wanted to climb the trees. I
wanted to show people a new perspective to watch the sky
from, not just the typical observatory with a wide view of
all the sky sphere. By putting the view-platforms up in the
trees, I tried to give the association of the typical children’s
tree huts, but also give the users the feeling of climbing a
little bit on the log ladder that rises towards the sky.
the project consists of two main elements, the platforms
in the trees and the path on the ground. this path is
accessible for wheel chairs, and continues a bit past the
edge of the slope, so you can feel the ground disappearing
and thus have an ascension towards the sky.
constructIon
the main construction of the platforms consists of two
sets of overlapping beams in a v-shape, with a layer of
secondary beams on top. the trees make out the only
fundaments of this construction.
