stars and archItecture

the facades of the pavilions will interact with the stars

and sun through the wall’s perforations and altitude. at

the Water pavilion the stars would raise over the edge of

the wall and you could follow their path over the night on

the water, and different stars and planets would show

their ‘‘journey’’ during certain periods of the year. the

experience would change for adults and kids given their

height difference, but always having the north star in

the middle of the pool as reference. at the fire pavilion

the openings on the wall would show cosmical events

that will take place during one specific night of the year,

framing a more scientific interaction with the sky. and

finally the Pergola will have a more playful interaction

with the sun which is the prime example of our

relationship with the stars although frequently forgotten.

having the mountains view as its backdrop during the day

structure

the pavilions have the same structural logic, composed

by bent glulam columns and the bracing would be

conformed by a stiffening “ring” on the top that would

take the horizontal forces made also by glulam united by

finger joints on two points with the wood going on three

directions to work better with the fiber directions. as well

it would have a series of beams underneath the flooring

to reinforce the structure. the Bent columns would show

in its morphology the fantastic versatility that wood can

have.
