Background
Calculation of the safety of lightweight gravity
dams are built on a model of the failure of the
dam. The mechanisms of failure for such dams
are not sufficiently understood, and for us as
a society to have safe dams we need better
understanding of these mechanisms.
My master thesis deals with numerical
modelling of the concrete rock interface in the
FEM program Atena, and the design of a large
scale shear test that is to be carried out in the
summer this year.
