These step by step preparations are made specifically to help you get ready for the Sesam course in TMR4195. Should you run into any trouble or have any questions related to the preparations, please send us a mail. Our contact info is found at About.

Step by step preparations

  1. If you have a Windows 7 or 10 operating system, you may skip this step. 
    Otherwise, the DNV GL Software is unfortunately only available for Windows operating systems. The easiest way to fix this is to install Windows as a dual boot configuration (recommended, see our guide) or to install Windows as a virtual PC inside your existing operating system. This can be done in various ways, but we have made a guide on Installing a virtual machine using VirtualBox. If so, you should also read the hardware recommendations given at Sesam software.

    If you do not have a valid Windows license, this can be acquired for free by following the instructions from NTNU Innsida. After the dual boot or the virtual machine is configured, you can follow this guide as normal.
     

  2. To install the correct software, visit https://projects.dnvgl.com/sesam/download/windows64/programs.html. Note that some programs are 64-bit while some are 32-bit versions. Make sure you install the correct one.
     

  3. Download the following Sesam programs. Make sure you download the exact versions specified below.

    The versions listed here are specific to the Sesam-course taking place 1, 2, 8, 9 and 15. February 2021!

    1. Application Version Manager 3.1-01 (32-bit)
    2. Sesam Manager 6.6-02 (32-bit)
    3. License Manager 11.17-00 (64-bit)
    4. GeniE64 8.0-21 (64-bit) (Note: This version of GeniE does not work using the NTNU license. A temporary course license is expected to arrive and be made available 28.01.21.)
    5. Sestra64 10.12-00 (64-bit)
    6. HydroD64 (Note: The version is not yet available. However, this program is not needed until 08.02.21) (64-bit)
    7. Wadam64 9.7-01 (64-bit)
    8. Postresp64 6.9-02 (64-bit)
    9. Xtract64 5.4-02(64-bit)
  4. To set up the license, follow the instructions found at https://software.ntnu.no/ntnu/dnvgl. Note that you need to use VPN to use the NTNU license. For the course, a temporary license will be made available. This will not require the use of VPN.

  5. Open HydroD and GeniE to make sure the license is working properly. If it doesn't, you will most likely get an error like the one in this picture.
     
  6. Open the Application Version Manager and make sure all the necessary software are downloaded and registered inside the Application Version Manager.

  7. You are now ready, but to be prepared, we recommend you to do the first tutorial(s) included in HydroD, GeniE and Sesam manager. This will make it a lot easier to follow what's happening in the course. You may also read more about Sesam and it's programs on our pages Sesam software, GeniE (Tips and tricks, GeniE) and HydroD. 
    Also, it is beneficial to bring a computer mouse for the course!
