The authors, who have not received email of the abstract acceptance/rejection (possibly email failure, do not forget to check junk folder in your mailbox), let us know through our contact email, iahr2022@videre.ntnu.no. We will resend the email.

Abstract submission deadline

Submit your abstract no later than 01 November 2021, 23:59 CET.

Abstracts submitted after the deadline, shall not be accepted.

Format

The abstract should describe the background of research work, methods and expected results. The recommended length of the abstract is 300 – 500 words in A4 size paper format. The recommended font description: size 12pt, paragraph line spacing 1.5, font type – open Sans, Serif, Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, LaTeX. Do not use mono space fonts. Upload *.pdf file of the abstract before the deadline.

Review

The submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the organizing and scientific committees. The review criteria are based on scope of the symposium, quality and depth of the scientific results (expected), methodology and format guideline.

Manuscript submission

Manuscript submission deadline: 28 February 2022, 23:59 CET (extended)

Format requirement

During the first round of review process, author(s) do not have to (necessarily) perform final formatting of the manuscript. However, please note that the overall formatting must be followed. The manuscript paper should be A4 size, 12pt font, 1.5 line spacing (or 21.6pt), font type – Times New Roman or LaTeX. The line numbers must (continuous) be included in the manuscript; see example https://bit.ly/3bUgyFa. Reviewers will make suggestions using the line numbers. This will help authors to address the comments precisely.

The manuscript must be submitted through the submission portal. Upload *.pdf file of the manuscript before the deadline. The maximum supported file size is 20 MB. The maximum permissible pages are ten in the final format (IOP Science) therefore make sure your manuscript is not too long.

Use well-structured content and headings in the manuscript, e.g., Introduction, Materials and methods, Experimental setup, Numerical setup, Results and discussions, Conclusions, Future work, Acknowledgements, Author contribution, References. This is not mandatory requirement, but well-structured contents help to maintain uniformity across manuscripts of the symposium.

The organizing committee strongly encourage the authors to use nomenclatures and abbreviations identical to IEC standards (TC4 - hydropower/turbine). This will help to maintain uniformity across the manuscripts and the international standards. It is highly recommended to SI based units and the matric system in the manuscripts. Read additional guideline from IOP Science: https://publishingsupport.iopscience.iop.org/questions/style-guide-journal-articles/

Affiliation

Write authors name preciously in the manuscript to enable accurate indexing and citation. We encourage authors to write ORCID identifiers (if available) along with the affiliation for all authors to avoid ambiguity. If an author’s current address is different from the address where the work was carried out, this should be explained in a footnote or acknowledgement.

Language requirement

Manuscript must be in English language (preferably UK). Reviewers may not make suggestions for grammatical errors and poor sentence structures. Authors themselves are responsible for language correction. Articles should be clearly and concisely written, and be accessible to an international audience. You should aim for consistency within your article in matters such as hyphenation and spelling. All acronyms and abbreviations should be clearly explained when they first appear in the text. We encourage authors to use inclusive language (e.g., ‘they’ instead of ‘he’ or ‘she’) wherever possible.

On completion of the first draft, carefully re-read your paper and make any amendments that will improve the content. When complete, send the paper to colleagues and co-authors, and use their feedback to improve the clarity of the text. When all co-authors are satisfied that the draft is ready to be submitted to the submission portal, carry out one final spelling and grammar check before the submission.

Abstract

The main purpose of an abstract is to contextualize and describe the work in a concise way and easily-understood manner. This will ensure that the scientific work is found and read by the intended audience. Avoid usage of very specific and highly technical words. Clarity in writing is extremely important in the abstract. Clarity is achieved by providing information in a predictable order. Successful abstracts therefore are composed into following order. (1) General and specific background. Do not add much jargon or description. (2) Knowledge Gap. (3) Method. (4) Main results outcome (5) Conclusion. The maximum permissible length of the abstract is 200 words.

Referencing and bibliography

While citing references and listing in bibliography, follow IOP Science guideline (strictly): https://publishingsupport.iopscience.iop.org/questions/references/

Peer review criteria

Peer review of papers published in the IOP Conference Series titles is undertaken through processes administered by the organizers and proceedings editors. The conference organizer follows the guideline available from IOP Science. All submitted manuscripts will be reviewed under the category of single-blind review.

The organizing committee will strictly adhere to the following minimum standards. The information is directly borrowed from IOP Science.

  • Unbiased consideration is given to all papers offered for publication in the proceedings regardless of race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship or political philosophy of the authors.
  • No terminology shall be used that, in the opinion of IOP Publishing, is offensive or might be perceived to be offensive to others.
  • Authors and Editors agree to comply with our ethical policy, and understand that IOP Publishing has the right to investigate any suspicions and/or allegations of misconduct relating to published proceedings.
  • Conference papers shall meet all the usual standards of quality for an IOP Publishing publication. However, referees shall take into account the conference nature of the papers and so consider background papers more favourably than would be normal for a regular paper. These allowances shall not go so far as to approve papers of low scientific standard or papers that have been published in written form elsewhere. Review papers are also welcomed and accepted.
  • Submission and peer review should all be conducted in English.
  • Reviewers shall give a clear statement of recommendation for each paper and supply comments to support their recommendation suitable for transmission to the author.
  • Editors and Organisers shall only accept papers where there is clear support from the reviewers

Reviewers will consider the following key points related to scientific content, quality and presentation of the papers:

Technical Criteria

  • Scientific merit: notably scientific rigour, accuracy and correctness.
  • Clarity of expression; communication of ideas; readability and discussion of concepts.
  • Sufficient discussion of the context of the work, and suitable referencing.

Quality Criteria

  • Originality: Is the work relevant and novel?
  • Motivation: Does the problem considered have a sound motivation? All papers should clearly demonstrate the scientific interest of the results.
  • Repetition: Have significant parts of the manuscript already been published?
  • Length: Is the content of the work of sufficient scientific interest to justify its length?

Presentation Criteria

  • Title: Is it adequate and appropriate for the content of the article?
  • Abstract: Does it contain the essential information of the article? Is it complete? Is it suitable for inclusion by itself in an abstracting service?
  • Diagrams, figures, tables and captions: Are they essential and clear?
  • Text and mathematics: Are they brief but still clear? If you recommend shortening, please suggest what should be omitted.
  • Conclusion: Does the paper contain a carefully written conclusion, summarizing what has been learned and why it is interesting and useful?

Accepted manuscripts

Final formatting requirement

When the manuscript is completely accepted by the reviewers, authors can deliver the final manuscript with correct formatting. Please note that the manuscripts, which are in the category of ‘major revision’ and ‘minor revision’ are not considered as ‘completely accepted.’ IOP Publishing requires to meet formatting guideline absolutely. Any manuscript, which does not meet the formatting guidelines, will be returned by the IOP publisher and the publication of all manuscripts will be halted. This will delay the publication process. We do not have permission to edit/modify any manuscript. Authors themselves are responsible for the final formatting.

Overall guideline for the manuscript

Following contents are borrowed from IOP Science (https://publishingsupport.iopscience.iop.org/author-guidelines-for-conference-proceedings/).

Authors must prepare their papers using Microsoft Word or LaTeX, according to the guidelines and templates, and then convert these files to PDF. It is important to ensure that when you submit your final manuscript, it is in its final form ready for publication, and has been thoroughly proofread. Neither IOP publisher nor organizer copy edit or reformat the papers. We will not send out author proofs prior to publication. Post-publication changes are not possible, so please ensure that your manuscript has been checked for errors. By submitting a paper an author and all co-authors are assumed to agree with the terms of the IOP Proceedings Licence.

  • Paper size is A4.
  • Margins are 4cm (top), 2.5cm (left and right) and 2.7cm (bottom).
  • The paper includes the author name and affiliation (full address including country).
  • There are no page numbers, or headers and footers, within the paper.
  • The PDF is free of formatting errors (e.g. corrupt equations, missing or low-resolution figures), since conversion from Word to PDF can introduce formatting errors.
  • Text is single spaced, do not include line number.
  • The PDF file is editable and not password protected.
  • All pages are portrait (landscape pages should be rotated).
  • Reference lists are checked for accuracy. References can only be linked via Crossref if they are correct and complete. Include DOI for journal articles.
  • Figures are placed within the text, not collected at the end of the document.
  • A thorough proofread is conducted to check the standard of English and ensure wording is clear and concise.

Download templates

Authors must prepare their papers using our Microsoft Word or LaTeX2e templates, and then convert these to PDF format for submission:

Multimedia

If you would like to submit multimedia to accompany your paper, you might find these guidelines useful:

Style guide

Acronyms

  • Define acronyms at their first occurrence in the abstract and main text. After this, use the acronym only.
  • Do not use an acronym if the definition or phrase is used only once.
  • The definition should be lower case, unless it contains proper nouns, e.g., electron energy distribution function (EEDF).
  • Acronyms that are very familiar to readers of a particular journal do not need to be expanded.

Mathematics

  • Punctuate equations (inline and displayed) as part of the sentence.
  • Make the following notation roman: differential ‘d’, exponential ‘e’, complex ‘i’, sin, cos, tan, etc.
  • Use italic for subscripts and superscripts that are variables and roman for those that are labels.
  • Use a full space between numbers and units, e.g., 1 m s−1. Apply the same rule for numbers with mathematical operators, e.g., 1 = x.
  • Write units in index notation, e.g., m s−1.
  • Do not use hyphens between a number and its unit; use, e.g., 5 m thick barrier (not ‘5-m thick barrier’, or ‘5-m-thick barrier’).
  • In numbers, include a thin space every three digits from the decimal, e.g., 15 000.

Footnotes

  • Number footnotes sequentially throughout the article. If numbers have been used for affiliations, run on subsequent footnotes in the text (rather than starting again at 1).
  • Denote table footnotes with lower case superscript roman letters, e.g. ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, etc, and the list the footnotes underneath the table. Write each new footnote on a separate line.

Miscellaneous

  • Use single quotation marks for quotations and double quotation marks for quotations within quotations.
  • Use lower case ‘x’ in ‘x-ray’, except at the beginning of a sentence.
  • Use a single space after a full stop.
  • En dashes (–) can denote a range or relationship between two nouns. Em dashes (—) can be used in place of commas or brackets. Do not use spaces between em dashes or en dashes.
  • We encourage authors to use inclusive language (e.g. “they” instead of “he” or “she”) wherever possible.

How to cite an IOP Conference Series paper

The following information is intended to provide an overview of how to cite articles published in the IOP Conference Series titles. Please note that the full publication record for all IOP journals and proceedings can be found in IOPscience.

  • All proceedings in IOP Conference Series are published as a single volume of the relevant title. Typically, each volume has just a single issue but very large volumes may be split into two or more issues for ease of reading and navigation.
  • Papers published in IOP Conference Series titles use an article numbering system that means that papers should be cited by using the six-digit article number in place of a page number (see examples below).
  • Every article has its own unique identifier called a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
  • Articles can be linked via the Crossref system.
  • The pages in the PDF file of each article are numbered from 1. These page numbers should not normally be included in a reference. However, if it is desirable to indicate the length of an article, this can be done by including the number of pages, in parentheses, after the article number.
  • Please reference and link to the original Version of Record (where it was first published) rather than to other versions of an article and/or a link to a repository or third party database.
  • We discourage the referencing of online material hosted at web addresses that have no guarantee of perpetuity. Permanent or persistent web links should be used, as these are intended to remain unchanged for many years into the future, yielding hyperlinks that are less susceptible to ‘link rot’. Examples of acceptable links include: Digital Object Identifier (DOI), PubMed identifier (PMID), PubMed Central reference number (PMCID), SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) Bibliographic Code, and arXiv e-print number.
