ERASMUS MUNDUS MASTER IN EMBEDDED COMPUTING SYSTEMS
STRUCTURE OF STUDy
Faculty of Information Technology,
Mathematics and Electrical Engineering,
by the departments Electronics and
Telecommunications, Engineering
Cybernetics, Computer and Information
Science, and Telematics, participate in
the European Erasmus Mundus master
programme for the 2 year degree Master
of Science in Embedded Computing
Systems. The students may choose
between three different universities:
Technische Universität Kaiserslautern
(UNIKL), University of Southampton
(UoS), and NTNU.
The first year is devoted to a Core
Programme at one of the universities.
The second year is done in an
Elective Programme at one of the other
universities. One of 5 specializations is
selected at the beginning. Based upon
this choice, a proper set of mandatory
and elective courses is determined. In
the 3rd semester, a project is done, while
work on the master thesis is devoted
to the 4th semester. The master thesis
is often done in collaboration with a
company.
SPECIALIZATION TOPICS
The specialization topics are mentioned
briefly below. Details are found on the
web pages. First, one of three Core
Study Areas is selected: ECS hardware
architectures, ECS system software or
ECS SoC-Design Methodology.
In the second year, one Elective
Study Area is chosen:
Advanced Topics in
Embedded Systems, Communication and
Signal Processing, Automation and Con-
trol, or Micro Systems
. Each of the three
universities offers specialization courses
within the four areas. More information
is to be found on the given URLs.
EMPLOyMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Master of Science in Embedded
Computing Systems possess a broad ICT
competence, which is applicable globally.
There are numerous job opportuni-
ties within research and development,
consulting, management, and marketing.
Employment opportunities are found
in telecommunications, automotive,
medical equipment, space technology,
navigation, and micro-electronic system
design in general.
In addition, students having good ideas
for products or processes that may be
commercialized will receive assistance
to start their own business. Nordic Semi-
conductor, Atmel Norway, Energy Micro,
Q-Free, Nacre, Optoplan, and AUROTECH
ultrasound are examples of off-springs
