Compassionate leave
It is possible to apply for a leave of absence with full or reduced pay for a specifc
number of days, in special cases such as in the event of serious illness in the
immediate family, attending a funeral, helping a child settle in to kindergarten/

PENSION AND INSURANCE
Membership of the National Insurance Scheme
For residents or employed persons membership is compulsory. All residents in
Norway are required to be members of the National Insurance Scheme. It is not
necessary to be a Norwegian citizen. Persons who work in Norway or in the
Norwegian sector of the continental shelf, but who live in another country, are also
covered by the National Insurance from their frst day of work. This applies even if
the employer is a foreign frm.
Persons who move to Norway are regarded as residents for national insurance
purposes if they will be staying in Norway for a year or longer. It is a condition that
the person concerned is legally permitted to reside in Norway. For more information,
