The arriving and vieweing situation
INTRODUCTION
Bird watching is a well appreciated hobby amongst some people,
and bird watching towers are needed to be able to look at birds
from a certain altitude. In addition to that, a tower can represent
a lot more. It can be a landmark which brings more people out
of their homes and in to the nature. It can also be a sosial hub
for people to meet and have a chat or discussion. It can also
be an occasional playground for children either in groups or in
smaller numbers.
This project is called “Tree Angulation”, and that derives from
the way it incorporates itself with the trees from the site. By
interacting extremely close to the nature and the trees, you
create a contrast that makes the mind more aware of their
presense.
STRATEGIES
Orientation
The orientation of the viewing platforms/areas is of huge
importance. The birds are usually located towards the north-
west.
A fine line
For me it was of big importance to also include the little hill of
forest. The structure has a cladded inner wall which divides one
sides towards the forest and the other exclusively towards the
birds. There are possibilities to install sitting elements on the
forest side of the wall.
Natural arrival
I felt the path towards the entrance of the structure should be
read from the terrain. The entrance to the tower is located at the
most natural walking path when coming from the east.
Steady construction
Bird watching require static conditions so I worked with triangles
to create a rigid construction. It is a quite simple construction
which also gives some options to make different type of space.
