Step by step preparations

  1. If you have a Windows 7 or 10 operating system, you may skip this step. 
    Otherwise, the DNV GL Software is unfortunately only available for Windows operating systems. The easiest way to fix this is to install Windows as a dual boot configuration (recommended, see our guide) or to install Windows as a virtual PC inside your existing operating system. This can be done in various ways, but we have made a guide on Installing a virtual machine using VirtualBox. If so, you should also read the hardware recommendations given at Sesam software.

    If you do not have a valid Windows license, this can be acquired for free by following the instructions from NTNU Innsida. After the dual boot or the virtual machine is configured, you can follow this guide as normal.
     

  2. Follow the installation information given at the page Sesam software.
     

  3. Download the following Sesam programs. Make sure you download the 64-bit version whenever possible, as some of the 32-bit versions are no longer supported. The correct version to download is given in parantheses.
    1. Application Version Manager (32-bit)
    2. Sesam Manager (32-bit)
    3. License Manager (64-bit)
    4. GeniE64 (64-bit)
    5. Sestra64 (64-bit)
    6. HydroD64 V5 (64-bit) (we may get a newer version before the course, but then we will let you know)
    7. Wadam64 (64-bit)
    8. Postresp64 (64-bit)
    9. Xtract64 (64-bit)
       
  4. Open HydroD and GeniE to make sure the license is working properly. If it doesn't, you will most likely get an error like the one in this picture.
     
  5. Open the Application Version Manager and make sure all the necessary software are downloaded and registered inside the Application Version Manager.

  6. You are now ready, but to be prepared, we recommend you to do the first tutorial(s) included in HydroD, GeniE and Sesam manager. This will make it a lot easier to follow what's happening in the course. You may also read more about Sesam and it's programs on our pages Sesam software, GeniE (Tips and tricks, GeniE) and HydroD. 
    Also, it may be is beneficial to bring a computer mouse for the actual course!
