The Winter semester at TU Berlin runs from October to March and the Summer semester from April to August.
Winter Term: October 1 to March 31
Lecture period: mid-October to mid-February (break over Christmas/New Year’s for 1-2 weeks, depending on the weekdays)
Exam Period: mid-Feb to early March (starts three weeks after lectures are finished ) & beginning of April until mid-April (three weeks until lectures in summer start)
Summer Term: April 1 to September 30
Lecture period: mid-April to mid-July
Exam Period: mid-July to beginning of August (start three weeks after lectures are finished) & beginning of October until mid-October (three weeks until lectures in winter start)
Exam periods typically last three weeks.
Usually the lecturers plan exams in the to exam periods although they are allowed to deviate. Exam dates will usually be announced in the first session of the course. Some courses have the exam type “portfolio”. This means that there are multiple parts of the exam. This can be mid-terms, presentations, term papers etc. The module descriptions should always show what type of exam is to be expected.
Thesis
The thesis period at TUB is six months. Starting in April generally means handing in in October of the same year. See the page on THESIS for more details.
