Oppgavenr.: BM4
Kort beskrivelse av oppgaven:
There are several challenging work activities to be carried out on high performance and dynamic insulation materials and solutions. Major developments in this field will have an huge impact on the building sector and the world in general, e.g. with respect to energy savings, reduced emissions and building practice. The specific work activity involves a large team of persons from various scientific disciplines, e.g. building physics, materials technology, chemistry, condensed matter physics and theoretical physics. This research team which the students will be a part of will search for materials and solutions beyond and even far beyond today's new state-of-the-art solutions like vacuum insulation panels (VIP). Properties, requirements and possibilities for robust and highly thermal insulating materials and solutions for application in zero emission buildings will be investigated. There will be a focus on inventing, developing, characterizing and testing such novel and advanced materials and materials solutions. These materials may include robust vacuum insulation materials (VIM), nano insulation materials (NIM) and dynamic insulation materials (DIM). The highly thermal insulating materials will be studied both at a material, component and structural level. Fundamental theoretical studies aimed at understanding the basics of thermal conductance in solid state matter at an elementary and atomic level will be carried out alongside with experimental investigations. The ultimate goal of these studies will be to be able to develop tailor made high thermal performance insulating materials and dynamic insulating materials, the latter one enabling to control and regulate the thermal conductivity in the materials themselves, i.e. from highly insulating to highly conducting. Ultimately, one might also envision the whole span from thermal insulator to thermal supraconductor.
