Background for the task:
Creating a building energy model (BEM) is a time-consuming task that requires a lot of data collection and data setup. Furthermore, this often leads to uncertainty. Up to date, energy modellers use traditionally-created-drawings and create an independent model in an energy modelling software. This may lead to misinterpretation of the drawings, inconsistencies, simplified model, and large amount of time needed to create an energy model.
Building information modelling (BIM)-based building energy modelling (BEM) seeks to make this process seamless throughout the design as well as operation phases. BIM-based BEM attempts to automate the process and ensures consistent for complex energy models.
Brief description of the task:
- The objective of this project is to investigate the interoperability issues between BIM and BEM. For instance, the challenges of automating the data exchange process between BIM and BEM. The investigation aims at providing potential solutions for solving the interoperability issues
- The tasks should be complementary to our previous work: ‘’A Systematic Investigation of Interoperability Issues and Solutions Between Architectural BIM models and Building Energy Modelling: Case Studies’’, Master thesis, see
