Notes from the visit (scanned):

Some remarks/thoughts

  • Right now a lot of the equipment that was in contact with the cells during the experiment gets discarded after use. We have to consider our methods for sterilization/changing out parts of the system thoroughly.

  • We must ensure sterile air. The lab had some equipment for sucking up CCM that contained and air filtering mechanism.

  • We should make our system compatible with other equipment in the lab e.g. have a function that inserts a little bit of the sample to the small plates used in the Cell Counting Machine.

  • For imaging, the regular glass plates are too thick and Felicity told us that nobody would want to use those for imaging. Instead we should use the thin plastic ones named Cover glasses.

  • We should take a closer look at how experiments are done on the epithelial cells or cells that are naturally affected by a flow (e.g. blood flow). They are probably way more relevant to our system.

  • The cells tolerate to stay outside of the 5% CO2/95% O2 air for a little while!
