EARLY INTENTIONS
Starting out on this process I had some difficulties putting up a
hierarchy of my intentions and wishes, both concerning theme
and strategy. I knew I wanted to create a space for recreation
and observing the bird in it’s own element on nature’s premises.
I still didn’t manage to put these intentions into a physical
product.
The phase with scetchmodeling really helped me find the
direction, and I eventually decided that I wanted to create
a simple structure. Preferably a structure with easily
manufacturable parts that could be prefabricated off site.
PROCESS
From being very focused on the structure appearing as
a “tower”, I turned more towards wanting to explore the
possibilities of a horisontal structure, more accessible.
I also decided to use the contrast in the environment, the rolling
topography, the variety in lighting condition, the dense woods
versus the open swamp and lake area, to my advantage. A goal
became to keep the structure as open as possible, and at the
same time give you the possibility of seeking shelter from the
rain.
The one thing that I can say that I brought with me from
the earliest stages of the process is the idea of leaving the
constructive elements very visible to enhance each components
purpose. The building details were always in my mind. Trying to
keep it simple has been an important part of the process.
The building is based on a simple structural foundation. It
consists of repeating elements with basically the same details.
