THE CONSTRUCTION
The bird watching tower is a simple wood construction. It is
anchored to the ground in the lowest part. This, together with
the two bracings, is what makes the tower rigid.
The floor consists of standing wooden boards held together by a
threaded steal pipe, with hollow steel pipes used as spacers. The
walls follow the same principle.
The journey up ends with a glass plate which is fastened on the
outer floor board. This allows kids to see the beautiful view as
well as adults.
TRANSPARENCY
The cladding system is made so that it can be varied in height
and the spacing between each board. This derives from the
concept of varying transparency in the walls of the structure.
The transparency depends on the viewers viewpoint. The
spacing varys and helps the viewer focus on important qualities
outside the tower. Generating the different levels of transparency
is something that should be done on site, during the building
period.
When the boards are submitted to the natural forces, they will
start twisting. I think this could make the tower even more
exciting. It reacts to the natural forces and generate more
complexity in the transparency!
