There are many examples of safety-critical systems:
Railway systems:
- Railway signaling systems
- Automatic train control/stop (ATC/ATS) systems
Cars:
- Air bag system
- Safety belt
- Anti-spin systems
- Anti-brake systems
Offshore oil and gas industry:
- High pressure protection systems onboard an offshore facilitiy may be an example of the latter.
Safety-critical systems that include electrical, electronic, or programmable electronic technology are sometimes referred to as E/E/PE safety-related systems (using the very generic term), safety-related electrical control system (SRECS) in relation to machinery, or safety instrumented system (SIS) for safety systems installed in the process industry.
