Numerical simulations of ice actions on coastal and offshore structures involve modelling a wide range of physical processes such as impacts, friction, buoyancy, hydrodynamics, fracture and fragmentation of ice. The Simulator for Arctic Marine Structures (SAMS) represents the state-of-the-art and it will used in this study. First, the design ice events must be determined. Thereafter, the numerical model should be configured, and numerical results generated. The numerical results should whenever possible be compared with available full-scale and model-scale data.
