Prerequisites for beginning the Master’s thesis:

Before you can begin your Master’s thesis you must normally have completed all ordinary courses in your Master’s programme, and submitted the specialization project for evaluation. If you have remaining courses in your degree, but still wish to begin your thesis work, contact Ruud.

Registering your thesis: see "NTNU / Master Thesis Agreement" in this Wiki

In order to begin your Master’s thesis in Spring 2020, you must register a Master’s thesis agreement in Sharepoint before 15 January 2020. After you have filled out the agreement, please sign it together with your supervisor, and submit the signed agreement to your department office for registration (Cecilie Marhaug).

If you are unable to begin your thesis work by 15 January, but still wish to start the thesis in Spring 2020, please contact Ruud.

Please note that in addition to registering in Sharepoint and submitting the contract to your department, you also need to register for the correct thesis course code in Studentweb. The deadline to register for courses for Spring 2020 is 1 February 2020.

Submitting the thesis:

The total time frame of the thesis work is 20 weeks + 1 extra week for the Easter holiday. When you have registered your thesis in Sharepoint, your thesis submission deadline will be generated automatically on your master agreement. Make sure to submit the thesis in NTNU’s digital examination system Inspera before the submission deadline expires. If you fail to submit the thesis by the registered deadline, you will receive a “not submitted” grade. In that case, you will only have one more attempt at submitting a new or revised thesis, since NTNU students are given a maximum of two thesis attempts.

If you are delayed in your thesis work due to factors outside your own control (illness, delays in getting data from companies, software issues etc.), it’s possible to apply to the Faculty for an extension of the thesis submission deadline. Discuss with Ruud. If you need to apply for an extended submission deadline, please make sure to do so before your original submission deadline expires, or you will receive a “not submitted” thesis grade.
