At least 60 ECTS credits at TU Berlin and at least 60 ECTS credits at NTNU Trondheim.

Courses selected at both universities should overlap only slightly at most. 

For TUB courses are categorized within one of the categories economic sciences (ECON), engineering (ENG) or integration (INT). The minimum number of ECTS in each category is 28.5, 28.5, and 14.5 respectively. The aggregated total ECTS gained in integration, economic sciences, engineering, and electives must be at least 90 ECTS credits.

For NTNU courses are categorized within or outside the SESAM specialization. The aggregated total credits gained in SESAM must be at least 80 ECTS. 

Admissible compulsory and compulsory-elective courses are listed on the GKWi (TUB) and SESAM websites in the applicable course catalogues. 

To qualify for the TUB diploma an industrial or research internship of at least twelve weeks must to be completed outside the university in any country.

Language courses do not count towards the degree requirements at NTNU.

It is possible to include different courses at both diplomas, as long as the program criteria are met. 

Students writing their thesis at TU Berlin should also register their thesis at NTNU.

Mandatory courses

For students doing their first year at NTNU Experts in Team work is mandatory.

For students doing their second year at NTNU, the specialization course, specialization project and thesis are mandatory.

All students need at least 6 ECTS in microeconomics (as part of ECON), at least 6 ECTS in operations research (as part of INT).

The following three courses are mandatory in IEM-ER 

  • 70125   Energy and Resources – Fundamentals
  • 70126   Energy and Resources - Management (which is in German; the following course can be used by English-speakers as a substitute: 70049   Energy and Resources - Sector Coupling: Integrating Electricity, Oil and Gas Supply)
  • 70127   Energy and Resources - Technology and Systems

At NTNU, these courses can be replaced by:

  • 70125: TET4115 Power System Analysis
  • 70126: TET4135 Energy Systems Planning and Operation (or TET4155 Infrastructure for Energy Transmission and Distribution until 2019))
  • 70127: TET4185 Power markets, resources & environment

SESAM Students

Students of NTNU Trondheim study their first year at NTNU Trondheim and their second year at TU Berlin.

Students of NTNU Trondheim are exempt from the TU Berlin requirement at least 6 ECTS credits in law.

IEM-ER Students

Students of TU Berlin study their first year at TU Berlin and their second year at NTNU Trondheim .

Students of TU Berlin must adhere to the TU Berlin requirement at least 6 ECTS credits in law. (Category ECON)
