Here you will find information about the department

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) creates knowledge for a better world and solutions that can change everyday life. On 1 January 2016, NTNU merged with the University Colleges of Ålesund, Gjøvik and Trøndelag. The merger gave us more comprehensive educational offerings and larger research environments. Together, our four institutions create Norway’s most exciting, innovative and largest university.

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MTP) has broad interdisciplinary expertise in the fields of logistics, machine design, product development, materials science and risk and reliability of complex systems. The research at the department focuses on development, optimization and improvement of industrial processes and production systems.

Experimental research, education and practice is a vital part of the department's strategy. We have virtual laboratories for product development and physical laboratories for manufacturing and testing.

https://innsida.ntnu.no/wiki/-/wiki/English/Insurance

  • Occupational injury insurance in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (Statens pensjonskasse) applies to all employees at NTNU. This means that you have a statutory right to compensation if you sustain a work-related injury or illness
  • The group life insurance scheme is not included in the rights of members of the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, but it is part of the pay conditions for employees who are covered by the Basic Collective Agreement in the State. This means that the scheme applies to virtually all State employees, including temporary staff and part-time employees who have regular weekly working hours. The size of the insurance payment is linked to the basic amount (G) of the National Insurance Scheme (Norwegian):
  • Employees of the State are covered by occupational injury insurance during work-related travel in Norway (link in Norwegian) for the time during which they perform work on the journey. But we do urge you to also have a personal travel insurance for your own safety.
