Kort beskrivelse av oppgaven:
Smart windows are able to dynamically (either adaptively or controllable) change their solar radiation transmittance throughput by changes in an external stimulus such as e.g. solar radiation (photochromic windows), temperature (thermochromic windows) or electrical current (electrochromic windows). Thus, these and similar windows may be applied in energy-efficient buildings and lead to increased comfort, enhanced daylight control and savings through reduced heating and cooling loads. A possible and interesting approach to make smart windows is to exploit reversible metal electrodeposition processes for enabling colour changes from a bleached, transparent state with no colour tints with various intermediate levels to a white or dark coloured, opaque or reflective state. Properties, requirements and opportunities for reversible metal electrodeposition smart windows will be investigated. There will be a focus on inventing, developing, characterizing and testing such novel smart windows, both at a material level and at a component level. Hence, several different laboratory investigations will be carried out, among them e.g. miscellaneous materials syntheses, various component and device assemblies, spectrophotometer measurements of transmittance and reflectance versus wavelength and time, and accelerated climate ageing and durability studies. If this task is selected by several students, the students may work either individually or together on various specific work tasks, and then ultimately be collaborating on completing an operative smart window prototype and its characterization and testing.
