In today’s Information Age large-scale cyberattacks happen all too often. Hackers exploit known vulnerabilities that have not been properly addressed and new forms of malware, including ransomware, appear with alarming frequency. The increasing number of cybersecurity incidents, sometimes with immense impact on business functions, underscores the importance of preparing for these types of threats. As a result, cyber risk management has become a fundamental component of business operations and understanding the fundamentals of such risk and of ways of mitigating it have become essential skills.
This course is for those who have little knowledge of computers & technology and no or little prior knowledge of cyber security and wish to learn the fundamentals by being exposed to a balanced mix of technical and managerial issues of cybersecurity.
This is an online introductory course on information and cyber security. It covers the core concepts of cyber and information security, namely the basics of:
- Human, Organizational, and Regulatory Aspects of Cybersecurity
- risk management; law & regulation; human factors; privacy
- Attacks and Defenses
- malware; adversarial behaviors; security operations; forensics
- Systems Security
- cryptography; identity management & authentication; software security
- Infrastructure Security
- network security; cyber physical systems security; critical infrastructure security
Through lectures, seminars and discussions in both physical and virtual meetings, we will approach methods and frameworks for organizational and technological management of cybersecurity risk. We will work with cybersecurity challenges related to the participants’ everyday work and we will exchange and leverage experiences from the process industry.
After completing the course, the participants will have good knowledge of the above core concepts and of the relevant theories, methods and techniques; they will be able to structure and formulate scientific reasoning in the topics of the course; they will be able to discuss issues in cyber and information security with specialists, decision makers and a general audience; and they will be able to identify problems related to cyber and information security and to contribute with approaches to solve them.
