This small family has only 1 genus with 21 species (until 1998). This
genus, Chaerilus, was orginally placed in the family
Chactidae and has been assigned to several different families
over the years. These scorpions are found in Southern and
Southeast Asia. They can be found under stones, under fallen
trees, etc., in humid (mesic) habitats.
Scorpions in this family are rarely kept in captivity.
The scorpions in this family are not medically
important.
