APPLICATION DEADLINE: see page 1.
AbOUT THE STUDy PROGRAMMES
We offer two international MSc pro-
grammes for non-Norwegian students.
The programmes are fully integrated
with the Norwegian Petroleum pro-
gramme, and all teaching is in English.
The programmes focus on the following
areas of activity:
w Exploration and production of
oil and gas on the Norwegian
continental shelf
w Methods for enhanced recovery of
oil
w Platform solutions and sub-sea
production equipment at great water
depth
w Demands on the environment in
northern areas
STUDy ENvIRONMENT
As a student on one of the MSc program-
mes you have access to good study faci-
lities and modern computer equipment.
The professional environment is all
encompassing and several field courses
in Norway, on Svalbard, and abroad are
included. You will be part of an interna-
tional student environment. There are a
limited number of students in each class.
This gives a feeling of group affiliation
which is an important dimension for
learning and personal development.
REQUIREMENTS
For the MSc programme in Petroleum
Engineering a BSc/BEng degree or
equivalent in petroleum engineering
is required. Applicants with a BSc/
BEng degree in mechanical or chemical
engineering may also be considered for
admission if they have relevant work
experience from the petroleum sector.
For the MSc program in Petroleum
Geosciences, a BSc in Geosciences is
normally required. However students
with a background in mathematics and
physics may also be considered.
JOb OPPORTUNITIES
The petroleum industry is still a develop-
ment and growth area, both natio-
nally and, not least, internationally. The
studies give you a basis for a compre-
hensive, challenging and exciting career
with a broad spectrum of job possibilities
within the petroleum industry, consulting
companies, exploration companies (geo-
logical and geophysical mapping), private
and public administration, and within
research and teaching. The consumption
of non-renewable natural resources
in the world increases more than the
population growth. This means that in
the future there will be an increasing
demand for people with competence in
geosciences and technology to be able to
utilize these resources in a sustainable
and environmentally safe manner.
THE STUDy IS SUITED FOR
If you wish to take part in the develop-
ment of new technology for exploration
and production of the earth’s petroleum
resources in the most effective and
environmentally best way, this is the MSc
programme for you.
COMPETITIvE ADvANTAGES
The studies give you special advantages
if you are planning for an international
career. Your specialization and master's
thesis may link up to actual problems
abroad in cooperation with the oil indus-
try. Problem solution and the ability to
cooperate are important keywords. If you
are thinking about working internatio-
nally the studies give you training in the
use of English. You will develop cultural
understanding and establish networks
already during your studies.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIALIZATION
Specialization can be achieved within the
areas of drilling technology, petroleum
production, reservoir engineering,
formation evaluation, petroleum geology/
geophysics, seismics, and reservoir
seismics. Examples of such specializa-
tions could be:
w Interpretation of geological data
provided by an oil company
w Modeling of processes within any
of our fields of specialization with
accompanying calibration tests in the
laboratory
w Evaluation of practical problems in
offshore operations
Interested in the search for
and the exploitation of oil and
gas? Would you like to de-
velop knowledge necessary
for value creation in the
exploitation of the natural
resources on the continental
shelf in a safe and effective
way?
