Master of Science in Globalization
ABOUT THE MASTER’S PROGRAMME
The two-year Master’s programme in Glo-
balization consists of two specialisations:
ww Global Production Management
(GPM), eligible for students with a
BSc in a Technology or Engineering
discipline.
ww Global Politics and Culture (GPC),
eligible for students with a BA in the
Humanities of Social Sciences.
Students will explore the interrelations
of the economic, technological, cul-
tural, social and political dimensions of
globalization. They will also gain practical
experience through a work placement/
internship in a global corporation or
organization within or outside Norway.
The aim of the programme is to provide
students with a general understanding of
the form and consequences of different
processes of globalization, combined with
an in-depth knowledge of one of the two
fields of specialisation.
WHY STUDY AT THE MASTER’S PRO-
GRAMME IN GLOBALIZATION?
The Global Production Management
specialisation is of particular relevance
to technology students with a special
interested in issues related to global
production, such as global value chains,
information technology and environmental
and social responsibility.
The Global Politics and Culture speciali-
sation is designed for students interested
in specialising in the political, cultural or
social aspects of globalization, such as
mobility and migration, values or religions,
cultural translation and ethical dilemmas.
ADMISSION
Admission to the specialisation in Global
Production Management is open to MSc
students who have completed the first
three years of the five-year programme of
study at NTNU, and students with a BSc in
Technology or Engineering.
Admission to the Global Politics and Cul-
ture specialization requires a bachelor's
degree in the social sciences or the
humanities with minimum 80 ECTS in one
of the following diciplines:

ww Sociology
ww Social Anthropology
ww History
ww Geography
ww European Studies
ww Economics
ww Development Studies
ww Cultural Studies
ww Cultural Heritage Studies
ww Religious Studies
ww International Relations
Successful applicants must have achieved
a minimum of the equivalent of a the
grade C in Norwegian grading system
in their undergraduate degree (for both
specialisations).
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The master’s programme is a two-year
programme covering 120 credits. The
programme consists of
ww two core courses for students
within both specializations; Knowled-
ge Management in a Global Economy
(7.5 credits), and Research Design and
Methods for Interdisciplinary Studies
(7,5 credits).
ww courses, both mandatory and
elective, within the chosen
specialisation (37.5 credits)
ww a work project/internship in an
international institution or company
abroad (30 credits)
ww the Master’s thesis (22,5/30 credits).
Throughout the programme, the students
will benefit from the resources of NTNU’s
Globalization Programme which organises
regular seminars and workshops.
STUDY ENVIRONMENT
Students pursuing a Master’s degree in
Globalization work in an interdisciplinary
environment in which social contacts and
professional cooperation with their fellow
students are important components.
CAREER PROSPECTS
MSc in Globalization is designed to
provide students with the requisite
knowledge and transferable skills to
pursue careers in private corporations
or governmental sectors, in international
non-governmental organisations (NGOs),
or within campaigning groups. Successful
candidates will have proved their capacity
to engage in team work, gained relevant
work experience, as well as demonstrated
their ability to employ interdisciplinary
approaches.

of the dynamics and effects of globalization within an interdis-
ciplinary framework. Choose this MSc programme if you would
like to study global value chains and manufacturing processes,
and understand the political and cultural consequences of
increasing global inter-connectedness.
