Over 50% av kvinnene rapporterte god helse. Forekomsten av røyking var lavere enn
ellers i landet.

Women's health in Rogaland county – screening for
cardiovascular risk factors.

ENGLISH SUMMARY
The aims of the study were to report smoking habits and the levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride,
blood sugar, blood pressure and body mass index. The study was carried out in cooperation with the
National Health Screening Service. About 200 women, 15 to 75 years old, participated in the study.
The concentration of total cholesterol, triglyceride, and blood sugar, and the levels of body mass index
(BMI) and blood pressure increased with age. A statistically significant association was found between
BMI and triglyceride, and between BMI and blood pressure. More than fifty percent of the women
reported that their health was good. The proportion of women who reported cigarette smoking was
lower than among women in a national sample. Women who smoked or had either total cholesterol
≥
5.7 mmol/l, triglyceride ≥ 2.3 mmol/l, blood sugar ≥ 11.1 mmol/l, BMI ≥ 2.7 kg/cm2, or blood
pressure
≥ 140/90 mmHg were classified as having one or more risk factors. In the present study 71%
of the women had one or more of the risk faktors. The levels of the cardiovascular risk factors among
the women in this study were comparable with levels among women in other studies.
