Resumen

Many high voltage direct current cable systems include field grading materials with can be mixed such that the properties can be tailored to the particular configuration. This comes with a drastic increase in the number of design parameters to be considered in the nonlinear transient electrothermal finite element model.

This paper introduces the adjoint variable method to efficiently calculate the sensitivities of the quantities of interest with respect to a large set of design parameters.
