Focus and Scope

Papers at the Symposium present results of recent activities on all topics within its scope, which includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Design and modeling of high voltage components
  • Materials for new applications in AC and DC power apparatus
  • Ageing phenomena and breakdown mechanisms
  • HV measurements and test procedures
  • Condition monitoring and diagnostic techniques
  • Electric and thermal stresses and risk based condition assessment of power apparatus.
  • Environmental challenges

The Symposium provides an opportunity for researchers, PhD students and engineers working at research institutes, academia, power industry and power utilities to meet, exchange ideas, research results and practical experience on insulating materials, components, models and diagnostic methods, besides related topics such as apparatus and measurement techniques.

Peer Review Process

Articles submitted to the Symposium will be subjected to review by independent expert peers. The reviewers use five general criteria for evaluation in addition to specific expected qualities appropriate to the field or area the authors write about. The general evaluation criteria include: originality, contribution to knowledge in the field, clarity, adequate references, and overall quality of the article. The reviewers also write specific recommendations to the author and make a recommendations whether to accept the article for the sympsoium, do minor revisions, do major revisions, or reject the article.

Publication Frequency

The Proceeding will be published biannualy some months after the Nord-IS symposium has found place. It is also the goal to make some of the newer papers dating back to 2013 avaiable here.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Journal History

Nordic Insualtion Symposium (Nord-IS) started as a symposium on Partial Discarges (Nord-PD) in 1968 and have been arranged biannulaly since then, alternating between Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. In 2017, the 25th Nord-IS was held in Väserås, Sweden, where the first symposium also was held.
