Abstract

A small probe that can measure DC electric fields in air has been developed. As a consequence of the probe size, it is possible to measure close to the surface of e.g. an HVDC insulator, and to resolve the field with an excellent spatial resolution. However, challenges have been identified when performing measurements close to a surface and its influence on the measurement results have been quantified. Measurement procedures have been developed to be able to correct for the possible net charging of the probe.
