In 1942 Atle Selberg announced his basic estimate of the zeros of Riemann’s zeta function in the Proceedings of The Royal Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS). We discuss the circumstances around this result, and give Selberg’s own account quoting from an interview with him.
