Future user experiences in the digital era

Future user experiences in the digital era

Illustarsjon

The ongoing digitalisation of various types of services, infrastructures, sectors, etc., in society has major consequences for our everyday lives, now and in the future. It offers exciting opportunities (e.g., new types of services and business models), but also involves important challenges (including environmental implications, privacy, inclusion, security, …).

The starting point in this village is a user-oriented perspective on digitization: What does the digital transformation mean for future user experiences and for current and future users? And the other way around, what are the implications of a user- and User Experience-oriented perspective for digitization processes?

An interesting development in this context is that it is no longer "only" about facilitating positive and good experiences here and now, but increasingly also about how digital services and products can be developed in such a way that they promote a more long-term personal well-being; trigger a sustainable engagement (e.g., through exploring the adoption of gamification approaches); and even move from a human-centered to humanity-centered approach (thus potentially targeting relevant  sustainable development goals (e.g., SG3: Good health and well-being, SG10: reduce inequalities; SG12: Responsible consumption and production).

Relevant competency

The village is about the complex interplay between technology, people, and the context around it. Issues in this broader context therefore require an interdisciplinary approach and the village is open to students from different fields of study (e.g., design, computer science, communication technology and other technology fields, arts and humanities, social and behavioural sciences, …). The most important is that you have an interest in and be motivated to work around the village's theme. The groups will have great freedom in defining a project, scope and approach that is tailored to the group's specific competences and that engages all group members within the overall theme.

About the village

We are concerned with how solutions in the projects should be able to live on even after this course has ended. This can be either in the form of new solutions and processes being used by existing organisations or companies, or the project result being taken forward in a start-up company. In this course, the student groups will receive guidance from Spark* NTNU. Spark* NTNU is a free mentoring service for students with a business idea, or who want to be part of a start-up company. If the group wishes to proceed with the project or solution after the course has ended, we can help you to continue through getting you in contact with support functions for innovation at NTNU.

Important information about EiT

Important information about EiT:

  • The focus on teamwork skills and group processes is the unique feature of Experts in Teamwork (EiT)
  • EiTs teaching methods depend on the contribution and presence of every participant throughout the semester. For this reason, attendance is compulsory on every village day.
  • In contrast to many courses, the first few days are especially important in EiT. During this period, get to know each other and discuss what each individual can contribute. You will also draw up the compulsory cooperation agreement and start preparing a shared research question.
