The future workplace - lessons learned from two years of pandemic

With a global business marked and rapid development in communication technology employees are increasingly performing their work remotely. The Covid-19 pandemic really fuelled the fire of remote work providing the world with a glimpse in to the future of work. We are still learning from these experiences in both work life and society. Organizations world-wide are already putting to use the knowledge acquired during the pandemic, opening up for their employees to work more remotely and planning their office spaces accordingly.

New challenges arise in safeguarding employee social interaction, work environment, health and safety. Thus, human resources practitioners and management need to organize and manage their workplaces differently in the future. With new ways of working, organizations need new ways of ensuring workers’ health and wellbeing in order to sustain in a competitive global market.

This Village is for you that have extensive competence in Communication technology, Digital Interaction, Organization, Management, Digitalization, Administration, Economy, Social Work, Organizational Psychology, Human Resources Management, Work Environment, Health and Safety, Architecture with Real-estate Development and Management, Entrepreneurship, Globalization and Sustainable Development.

Teaching method

Hybrid: In this village there will be a mix of classroom and online teaching. Students must have a computer with camera and microphone.

About the village

Can the solution to some of the challenges we face with a rapidly changing work situation be found through an interdisciplinary EiT village? How can we use communication technology to maintain a good work environment in the future? Can we create better systems for digital interaction between people working remotely to ensure a healthy work environment? How do we maintain remote worker environment, health and safety in future workplaces? How do we organize future remote workplaces and how do we manage them? How do we build office spaces well suited for a mix of employees going to work and working from home? What are the financial gains of investing in the work environment and what are the losses of not doing so for both organizations and societies? How can we learn from experiences made in work life and society when planning for future work? How can we ensure good quality of social work in future workplaces? How do we do all these things when competing in a global marked whilst ensuring sustainable development?

Important information about EiT:

  • The focus on teamwork skills and group processes is the unique feature of Experts in Teamwork (EiT)
  • EiTs teaching methods depend on the contribution and presence of every participant throughout the semester. For this reason, attendance is compulsory on every village day.
  • In contrast to many courses, the first few days are especially important in EiT. During this period, get to know each other and discuss what each individual can contribute. You will also draw up the compulsory cooperation agreement and start preparing a shared research question.
