Jeg er førsteamanuensis i anvendt språkvitenskap ved Senter for faglig kommunikasjon (NTNU), hvor jeg for tiden underviser og forsker på ulike områder innenfor forskningsformidling.
Jeg er spesielt interessert i hvordan språkvitenskap kan hjelpe oss å forstå og løse utfordringer innen forskningsformidling, både på individ- og samfunnsnivå.
Noe av det mest spennende ved stillingen min er det å undervise 5-års masterstudenter samt PhD-kandidater i STEM-disipliner i hvordan de kan kommunisere sin forskning til ulike samfunnsaktører; hvordan bli bevisst på og bidra til aktuelle diskurser knyttet til deres forskningsområder. Dette arbeidet bygger på mine forskningsinteresser innen kognitiv lingvistikk, fraseologi, vitenskapelig skriving, og akademisk engelsk (EAP).
I denne undervisningskonteksten er jeg også vert og veileder til amerikanske studenter (læringsassistenter) som kommer til NTNU gjennom US Fulbright-programmet.
Min formelle opplæring er primært i språkforskning og språkdidaktik innen bruksbasert lingvistikk; jeg har også bakgrunn i biologi. Jeg fikk min doktorgrad i anvendt språkvitenskap fra Universitetet i Groningen (2013) under veiledning av prof. Kees de Bot og prof. Marjolin Verspoor. Før jeg begynte på NTNU i 2017 var jeg postdoktor ved MultiLing, et multidisiplinært forskningssenter ved Universitetet i Oslo.

Longitudinal Development of Holistic Formulaicity, Formulaic Sequences, and Lexical Complexity in Sojourner Diaries: A Dynamic Usage-Based Perspective
This study traces the development of holistic L2 English formulaicity, formulaic sequences, and lexical measures in Catalan/Spanish bilingual sojourners. Generalized additive mixed model analyses showed significant gains toward holistic formulaicity.
Constructing L2 phraseological chunks as complex form-meaning mappings
Based on a study of emergent patterns in L2 English learner data, I argue that the cognitive usage-based model enhanced by a complexity theory perspective can provide useful insights into L2 learners’ non-target-like use of L2 phraseological chunks.
Capturing EMI teachers' linguistic needs: a usage-based perspective
Building on usage-based approaches, I propose that linguistic units of EMI teachers' competence can be conceptualized as highly specific language functions arising from a specific EMI instructional context and mapping onto suitable formulations in ELF.
Conventionalized ways of saying things (CWOSTs) and L2 development
Using two measures of conventionalization (frequency and NS judgement of naturalness), we aim to define conventionalized ways of saying things (CWOSTs) as multi-word units so that they can be included in researching L2 development.
Foreign language writing development from a dynamic usage based perspective
Taking a dynamic systems perspective, we investigated the development of multi-word units (chunks) in L1 Dutch EFL learners. Our study shows crucial differences in the developmental trajectories of high- and low-input learners.
Development of chunks in Dutch L2 learners of English
Taking a usage-based perspective, we investigate the use of chunks (multi-word units) over the period of 2.5 years in a large population of L1 Dutch EFL learners.
A pedagogy for the writing of scientific abstracts in English: Conceptual Template and Abstract Package
We present a tailored pedagogy for scientific abstract writing, based on conventions of the genre, a flexible schematic map (Conceptual Template), a combined genre based on real-life submission scenarios (Abstract Package), and a scaffolded writing path.
