Biography
Vinay Swarnalatha Nagaraj is a Professor (Audiology) at the Institute of Neuromedicine and Movement Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, NTNU, Trondheim. He is Vice-President of the European Federation of Audiological Societies (EFAS). He holds a Ph.D. in Hearing and Speech Sciences with an emphasis in psychoacoustics, diagnostics, and rehabilitative audiology. He has academic qualifications from the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru, India, and Cambridge University, UK. His research efforts have primarily focused on understanding the mechanisms of normal hearing and hearing impairments and the perception of speech and non-speech sounds. Within this broad area, he has focused on hidden hearing disorders, cochlear dead regions, and perceptual consequences of music and noise exposure.
His works have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature-Scientific Reports, Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Hearing Research, Brain, Journal of the American Academy of Audiology, Ear and Hearing, American Journal of Audiology, and International Journal of Audiology. He is the recipient of the prestigious Åsgard Scholarship for research collaborations between Norway and France. He is a committee member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and a member of the working group in the European Federation of Audiological Societies (EFAS) for hearing screening. He is the national representative for Norway on the EFAS committee and a representative for the World Health Organization (WHO) committee for safe listening. He is an expert reviewer for European Commission research projects. He is actively involved in audiology research and has been a reviewer and editorial board member in reputed journals. He is a member of Wolfson College in Cambridge University, UK.
