Melanie Magin
Om
Melanie Magin er professor i mediesosiologi ved NTNU og har doktorgrad i kommunikasjonsvitenskap fra JGU Mainz (Tyskland). Hennes forskning fokuserer på samfunnsrolle og innflytelse av tradisjonelle og nye medier, samt mulighetene og risikoen forbundet med dem. Hun jobber i krysset mellom politisk kommunikasjon, online kommunikasjon (spesielt sosiale medier og søkemotorer) og sammenlignende forskning. Senest fokuserer hennes forskning særlig på filterbobler, ekkokamre og påvirkning av sosiale medier på den offentlige mening. Hun var leder (2021-22) og nestleder (2016-21) av den politiske kommunikasjonsseksjonen i European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA). I 2024 ble hun tildelt status som merittert underviser ved NTNU.

Informasjon til masterstudenter
Jeg kan veilede masteroppgaver om et bredt spekter av temaer innenfor og utenfor mine egne forskningsområder.
Metodisk har jeg fokus på kvantitativ forskning, men jeg har også erfaring med kvalitativ forskning og har veiledet en rekke bachelor- og masteroppgaver som har brukt kvalitative metoder. Jeg kan veilede oppgaver skrevet på engelsk så vel som på norsk.
Min veiledning av masteroppgaver kombinerer individuelle veiledningsmøter med gruppeveiledning. I gruppeveiledning (ca. hver tredje uke) diskuterer vi vanlige problemer og spørsmål som masterkandidatene står overfor, og masterkandidatene gir tilbakemelding til hverandre (f.eks. på tekster de har skrevet, på sine måleinstrumenter...) og får tilbakemelding fra meg. Jeg forventer at studentene jeg veileder deltar på gruppeveiledningen.
