Eg er forskar og professor II ved Institutt for Bioteknologi og matvitenskap og tilknytta Nobipol. Forskinga mi er i skjeringspunktet mellom mikrobiologi, biokjemi og bioteknologi, og eg er med på både reine grunnforskingsprosjekt og industritilknytta prosjekt. Eg underviser delar av Biokjemi II og PhD-kurset BT8120.

- Forstå og kontrollere biosyntesen av alginat i Pseudomonas fluorescens og Azotobacter vinelandii
- Studere alginat-modifiserande enzym
- Lage enzym med nye eigenskapar.
- Utvikle mikroorganismer som kan lage ingrediensar til fiskefor med fokus på DHA og EPA
- Studere korleis surfaktantar, polysakkarid og protein produserte av bakteriar påverkar flyteevnen til små mineralpartiklar.
- Cystedanning i A. vinelandii
- Samlinga av Actinomycetar frå Trondheimsfjorden
Utdanning og arbeidserfaring
Cand Scient frå UNIT, AVH 1987, PhD frå same stad i 1994. Eg var tilsett i SINTEF frå 1987 til 2004 som forskar og seinare seniorforskar. I 2005 tok NTNU over denne delen av SINTEF, og eg har sidan vore ved NTNU som fast vitskapleg tilsett i rein forskarstilling. Dette har omfatta leiing av prosjekt og koordinering av forskingsgruppe.
Det faglege fokuset mitt er oftast industriell bioteknologi der målet har vore å få bakteriar og thraustochytridar til å lage ulike produkt (protein eller metabolittar) i industriell skala. I stor grad har dette vore samarbeidsprosjekt der min del har vore på stammeutviklingssida. Eg har no erfaring med arbeid i ulike bakterieartar, dette inkluderer kloning, homolog rekombinering og å skreddarsy verktøy til ulike organismer. Vidare har eg arbeidd med produksjon, reinsing og karakterisering av ulike protein. Prosjekta har også gjeve erfaring i å søkje i ulike databasar for å finne gen som kan kode for ein ønska aktivitet eller klargjere metabolske spor.
